Ideas matter. They matter even more when they can be tested. Every Equal Trade initiative is designed as a Innovation Lab → Living Not to prove the model is perfect. To learn. To improve. To demonstrate what's possible.
Each project generates new knowledge. Each partnership expands the model. Each experiment brings us one step closer to a more balanced global economy.
Ghana Golden Cashew connects farmer cooperatives in Ghana with diaspora investors and Dutch processing partners. The aim is to build a profitable, ethical brand that gives farmers a share in the business and the revenue created closer to European consumers.
The Equal Trade Coffee Living Lab brings Ethiopian producers, diaspora entrepreneurs and Dutch partners together to test a coffee venture they can own together. Led by the Equal Trade Alliance, it explores whether a share in roasting, branding, distribution and sales can improve producer incomes and economic resilience.
The Equal Trade Diaspora Community brings individuals and organisations together to develop businesses co-owned by African producers and diaspora members. Starting in Europe, we focus on the stages where much of a product’s value is created: processing, branding, distribution and marketing.
The Equal Trade Academic Alliance connects universities and researchers to study how wealth is created and distributed along African value chains. Our central question is simple: who captures the value of African raw materials, and what would a fairer distribution look like?
EU-Africa Circular Bridge develops circular industrial zones that process leftover fruit, unsold harvests and other agricultural residues close to their source. Led by Africa In Motion, the initiative aims to create employment and support local enterprise while building production partnerships between Africa and Europe
Producer–Diaspora Ventures bring African producers and diaspora partners together as co-owners of businesses in Europe. Initiated by the Equal Trade Alliance, the model gives producers a stake in the processing, branding, distribution and retail stages where much of their raw materials’ value is created.
